Alameda County Smoke-Free Housing Campaign

Project Overview

To protect residents from secondhand smoke in multi-unit housing, Alameda County launched a public awareness campaign promoting the benefits of smoke-free housing policies. The goal was to inform tenants and landlords while building community support for healthier, smoke-free living environments.

My Role

I led the creative direction and design of the campaign’s paid media ads, crafting a series of compelling messages and visuals that brought urgency and empathy to the issue. The campaign was designed to be accessible, inclusive, and action-oriented.

Key Deliverables

  • Full suite of static and animated paid media ads

  • Messaging focused on secondhand smoke, health equity, and tenant rights

  • Creative variations for multiple platforms (social media, display, etc.)

  • Visual storytelling tailored for community engagement

The Impact

The campaign raised public awareness, encouraged resident advocacy, and reinforced policy efforts to expand smoke-free housing protections across the county. The visuals were shared widely and became a trusted part of local public health messaging.

Why It Matters

Secondhand smoke doesn’t stop at the door. This campaign helped frame smoke-free housing as a basic health and safety right, especially for families, children, and vulnerable residents living in shared spaces.
